Anxiety
What is Anxiety?
Everyone gets anxious or worries now and again. However, if constant worry and anxiety interferes with your life then you might have an anxiety disorder.
If you have excessive anxiety most days and it makes you feel ill and tired, and it affects your daily life, you probably have Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
There is a difference between normal, everyday worrying and the type of worrying you experience with GAD.
GAD is when you worry or feel anxious most of the time.
I experienced GAD when I was at my lowest point. From the moment I opened my eyes in the morning I would be anxious about the day ahead. I would worry about events that I knew were going to happen in the day, trying to imagine how they would happen and worry about if I could handle them. The worrying lasted most of the day.
How Do You Overcome Anxiety?
For an immediate relief to anxiety and worrying I found that meditation and ‘tapping’ worked wonders.
I find that meditation helps me mentally relax and live my life in calm and peace. Start with a couple of minutes practise in the safety and security of your home and then build on that. You will be surprised at how you automatically take this calm and ease into every day life.
I also used the ‘Tapping’ technique. This is a simple tecnique of breaking the link between your anxious thoughts and the associated physical feelings that they create.
In the long term you need to identify all the things that are causing your anxiety, i.e. your past experiences and the deep seated beliefs that rule your life.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) will help you to replace these unhelpful thought patterns with more helpful, more positive thoughts and behaviour. This will all lead you to a calm and easy approach to life. Visit the Useful Books page for an excellent book called Mind Over Mood that contains a number of photocopiable worksheets, and is laid out in an easy to use style. It is a must have for anybody suffering from panic attacks and/or associated anxiety.
My low cost Book shows you how to use the above simple techniques that helped me recover from stress, anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia. It will help you get your life back to where you want it to be. |
